Peppermint Essential Oil

Peppermint essential oil.  Just the name is enough to make me feel cool. I love the icy, fresh scent of Peppermint, but there are so many wonderful things about this oil.  Let’s talk about a few things this powerhouse essential is good for.  You’ll be amazed by what you can do with just a little drop of Peppermint.

Digestion

Feeling extra full after Thanksgiving dinner?  No worries, Peppermint has you covered.  Just take a few drops (in a carrier oil, or you’ll cry because it stings) and rub them on your tummy in a counter clockwise motion.  The counter clockwise motion is effective because that’s the way your intestines move.  If you have Young Living Vitality oils, a drop under the tongue is also helpful in providing tummy support.

Nausea

Maybe one of the best known uses for Peppermint oil is to help ease nausea. Diffusing peppermint, or placing a drop or two in your hand and inhaling directly can help ease your queasy tummy.

Tension

Some people find Peppermint to be extremely helpful in supporting head tension.  A few drops of Peppermint in a carrier oil applied to the forehead, back of neck, or temples can be soothing and relaxing (just be careful around the eyes!).  This also applies to tension on other areas of the body, such as muscle tension after a workout.

Respiratory Support

It doesn’t take much more than a whiff to know that Peppermint is amazing at opening up the sinuses and helping you breathe!  If you’re feeling congested, a drop or two of Peppermint on the shower floor during a hot shower can help energize and open things up.

Uplifting/Energy

The scent of Peppermint is great for helping you wake up in the morning and bringing energy to times when you need to really get things done.  I love to combine it with Lemon or other citrus oils in the diffuser of a morning to wake up, or with a grounding oil like Frankincense when I really want to focus and work.
